Coconut Octopus

About / est. 2026

Two moms... One mission.

To rethink what kids’ swimwear can be.

Our mission

Make the safe choice the obvious one.

Parents should not need a chemistry degree and a free afternoon to buy a swimsuit. Our job is to do that research once, publish it in plain language, and make the resulting suit good enough that you would choose it anyway.

And it has to look like something. A suit that gets left in the drawer protects nobody.

What makes us different

Most swim brands market. We publish.

What we put in

  • ECONYL regenerated nylon, spun from recovered fishing net
  • LYCRA XTRA LIFE for chlorine resistance that lasts past summer
  • Low-impact dyes in a closed-loop water system
  • Flat-locked seams, bar-tacked at every stress point
  • A certificate number printed inside every suit

What we leave out

  • PFAS, no “forever chemical” water repellents, ever
  • BPA and phthalates in prints, elastics or trims
  • Optical brighteners that make white look whiter and sit on skin
  • Sprayed-on UV coatings that rinse away by week six
  • The words “eco”, “clean” and “conscious” with nothing behind them

Why "Coconut Octopus"

It packs its own shelter.

Amphioctopus marginatus gathers discarded coconut halves off the seabed, tucks them under its arms and walks across open sand carrying its own armour. When something comes, it pulls the shells shut around itself.

It is one of the only invertebrates known to use tools. It solves the problem of being soft in an open ocean by carrying protection with it. That is the design brief for a swimsuit, written sixty million years before we got to it.

Come get in the water

Now go read the fabric spec. It is the good part.

FAQ

Common questions, answered.

General

Our goal is to create swimwear that is breathable, biodegradable, free of harsh chemicals and microplastics. Unfortunately, most swimwear on the market is derived from petroleum-based plastic.

Yes, but like any natural fabric, it’s important to rinse after use. We also recommend avoiding soaking in chlorine for too long.

Our swimwear is ethically made in small batches in Portugal and designed in Southern California.

We plan to expand sizing and styles to older & pre-teen kids, as well as adults, but for now we are starting small with kiddos. If you have a size or style you’d like to see in a future collection, please let us know!
